Willenhall Musical Society was formed in the 1940's by employees of the Yale & Towne Manufacturing company as a mixed choir. The choir has performed regularly at concerts in the local area and from time to time, further afield. In an average year we put on between six and ten concerts, of which 2 or 3 are festive Christmas concerts.
Over the years the choir has flourished and has sung in competitions around the country. The current membership numbers a little over 40, but in common with most mixed choirs, there is a predominance of ladies. We all believe that every effort should be made to preserve the British choral tradition and in furtherance of that desire, we actively encourage the recruitment of younger members. Willenhall Musical Society has a written constitution and aManaging Committeeand is a member of the National Association of Choirs.
We arrange concerts to support many charities and charitable organisations in the West Midlands and hold an annual concert , normally in November, for our charity of the year. We often invite guest artistes to share the stage for this annual concert and we have welcomed some terrific performers over the years from junior school bands to polished semi professional singers. This year,2010, our annual charity concert will be in aid of Help the Heroes, a very worthy cause. It will be held on 6th November at Pool Hayes school as usual. Please come and support them. And us!
Our 2009 Christmas carol concerts were well received at St.Andrews, Lane Head, and Moseley Court. See Diary for details.
The first event of 2010 was our Annual Dinner which took place at Oxley Park Golf Club and was well attended. Entertainment was provided by Matt Richards , who gave us a great performance on his ukulele. A few more pictures of the revellers are to be found here!
On 23rd April we held a St.Georges Day concert at Portobello Methodist Church in aid of church funds. It was a full house and we were supported by a children's choir from Bloxwich called Jigsaw, average age about 9. They were brilliant! Our programme was varied, but in the later part of the second half we sang some traditional patriotic songs in "Last Night of the Proms" style. Flags were waved and audience participation reached a new high! An excellent evening was had by one and all and over £500 was raised.

Our rehearsals take place each Monday evening, from 7.30 to 9.30 at Portobello Methodist Church, New St. just off the Keyway island. They are always fun and usually fairly painless! Anyone who likes to sing and can hold a tune will be warmly welcomed, particularly gentlemen, (currently outnumbered 4 to 1!) and contraltos. See Contact details on Contact Us page.
